Welcome back! We are on the final block of our Alaska Rainbow Quilt Along.
I cannot even begin to describe how amazing this experience has been quilting with everyone. Thank you for joining me. I hope you’ve enjoyed yourself as much as I did! Does anyone have a favorite block?
Be sure to check out last week’s blog to see what you might have missed.
Today, we will be making our last and final block. Grab your supplies – Alaska Rainbow Pattern, Alaska Templates, rotary, ruler, fabric pencil, and Aurifil thread 2310 – and lets quilt together!
Block 13 – We will only need one Block 13. Begin by arranging your cut pieces to form the block.
Assemble one Diamond A and two Half-Diamond B‘s. Mark both Half-Diamonds. Pin and sew the first Half-Diamond B to Diamond A. Press seams open before sewing the next Half-Diamond B.
Use your Wedge C template to precisely trim the unit. Repeat steps to complete the remaining 3 Diamond wedges.
For the corner units of the block, start by repeating all above steps to assemble the bottom wedge then mark, pin, and sew on Triangle D.
Press seams open. Repeat steps 3 more times to make all four corners and then arrange units to form the block.
Pin and sew units into quarters and trim. Sew quarters into halves, then sew halves together and press.
Now breathe – your final block is done!
Look at this scrappy beauty. Arrange fabric as shown, then follow the same steps as above to complete your scrappy block.
Isn’t this block just stunning?
I’m so excited for us to start putting our scrappy surprises together. Be patient and keep an eye out- I will be sharing my own completed scrappy quilt with you soon!
Finally, arrange all finished blocks following the pattern’s layout. Sew blocks into rows, then sew rows together to complete your beautiful Alaska Rainbow quilt! For more details please visit our YouTube channel.
