LOVE

Hello and welcome to my blog!
I am thrilled to be part of the Moda LOVE Blog Hop today along with designers
Kathy Schmidt and Bridgitte from Zen Chic.

I’m Edyta Sitar from Laundry Basket Quilts and I LOVE designing fabrics for you! My new collection from Moda is called “Heart’s Content” which is full of beautiful prints and colorful batiks to match. I LOVE my fabrics. 🙂
The “Sweetheart” quilt above is made with “Heart’s Content” that releases in Nov 2014.

There are lots of things that I LOVE, one of them is summer and the wildflower/weed bouquets that I receive from my children.

This summer we have a new LOVE that joined our family, his name is Oliver!

I LOVE the summer colors that inspires me and can be found in unexpected places.

I LOVE the farmers market for all of nature’s goodies like honey…

… and fresh fruit.

Every summer I look forward to our family reunion which equals LOVE, LOVE, LOVE,(and lots of good food). Even as I’m writing this post I can feel the LOVE. This year at the reunion I decided to share something that I LOVE with my family – a little bit of Quilting!

Our dining room quickly became the sewing room.

Young and old stitched together, patiently sharing…

…trimming…

… and helping each other.

There were many beautiful smiles and feelings of accomplishment, I think everyone was LOVING the process of creating!

The couch became a designing wall.

One minute their hands were full of crazy pieces.

And it seemed like only a few minutes later they were modeling with their projects!

It seemed like everything stopped outside.

The hay dried and the garden grew.

The hammock by the pool was empty.

All of the action and LOVE was inside. Some were busy ironing…

… while others only dreamed of quilting.

But in the end we all emerged full of LOVE from spending time together and being reminded how much we LOVE this old family tradition.

As soon as their quilts were finished some made plans to give them away with unconditional LOVE to those who could not make the reunion.

Others held them tight.

And just like I have shared some Moda LOVE with my family, I would love to share some Moda LOVE with you!

I do like the way you have framed this particular difficulty plus it does indeed present me personally some fodder for consideration. On the other hand, from what I have experienced, I simply hope when other comments pile on that people today keep on point and in no way get started on a soap box regarding the news of the day. Anyway, thank you for this exceptional point and even though I do not really concur with it in totality, I respect the standpoint.

Drat! I was gone on vacation and just got back to the US last night! I missed the drawing………but loved looking at your reunion pictures and all the LOVE!! We had our 56th annual family reunion at the end of July……..many years of LOVE!

We had a family reunion this past July which was too long coming. My mom and her sister (the only two “oldsters”) in the group got together after years of being apart. It was especially important because my aunt has dementia and often doesn’t remember people. Happiness abounded when my mom and aunt spent time together and my aunt recalled MANY memories they could share. That was truly the LOVE in our reunion. We are so very blessed.

Summer breezes, sheets on the line, hugging my girls, and sewing still! Growing up on a farm, while summer meant no school,it was the longest days filled with the hardest, hottest jobs. I wouldn’t trade that history with my family for the world now,but at the time….! I love anything Moda and have found so many wonderful collections to complete my projects. Thank you Edyta for your beautiful patterns and spreading the joy of color, patterns, texture, and love!!!!

The special colors you use are hard to define. They’re both muted and vibrant at the same time if there can be such a thing! Living in hot, humid Florida, I love cold, sweet iced tea in the summer with a touch of lemon or mint.

My favorite summer love is when it is over! Okay, that sounds awful, but I love cool weather, and I hate the heat. Autumn is my favorite season of all, and I would gladly take winter over summer. So I sort of dread the coming of summer. That being said, I do love the summer activities that we don’t get to participate in at other times of the year…..even if I am miserably melting at the time. Thanks for the fun Edyta. Keep on inspiring me with your awesomeness!

I have so many wonderful memories of summer and quilts all spent with my precious grandma who taught me to quilt. She would let me move the treadle peddle from below while she manipulated the fabrics under the needle. She had such patience with me and loved sharing her love of quilting with me! At the heat of the day, she would make a palate out of the quilt of my choice for me in front of the fan! Such delightful memories for me of my granda and our mutual love of quilts.

My loves are sewing, family and friends, and the Lord (not in that order). This summer I started a t-shirt quilt for one of my granddaughters. I am doing the quilting on it now. A year ago we moved from IL to AL to be near our oldest daughter. I love being close to her and her family. This is the 1st time we have lived close to any family, and I love, love, love it. But this summer we also went back to IL for 3 weeks attending a memorial service for a young civilian friend killed in Afghanistan. It was a beautiful service. The following Saturday we went to a wedding of a young man that my husband had mentored for a few years. The Saturday after that we went to the 75th birthday of my mother’s youngest birthday (Lee was only 3 when I was born so we grew up together and I can not call him uncle). At the party we saw several extended family members — some I had not seen since I was young. During the 3 weeks we also saw many friends — even going back to high school days. It really was a summer filled with lots of love.

The thing I love about is going to the beach, at least I did as a child. As an adult, I’ve not gotten the opportunity to go each summer as I would like . Odd how growing up I thought it was a given that we’d go to the beach in August. Now I understand better why there were a couple of summers when we didn’t get ot go. Shame on me for giving my mom such a hard time over it.

I’m not very experienced at appliqué but after seeing your quilts I want to learn more. I will check Craftsy for your classes so I can learn more. Also your new book looks wonderful. That will be my new favorite baby gift along with a baby quilt made from your pattern. Thank you for the chance to win!

Hi Edyta! I have so many summer loves it is hard to pick one… I love walking my dog in the early morning before the sun is too high and hot and then working in my garden for an hour – just finding a little solitary peace and meditation among the dirt and flowers. This makes my “Heart Content” and ready to go on with the rest of a warm summer day…

Thanks for assembling and offering a kit for us! My favorite summer memory is of riding my horse in the country and in the local horse shows. My all over love of summer is the cool mornings! This ties into the horse b/c I used to get up and wash him in the wee hours of the morning in the same cool temperatures just before the day’s horse show.

Well this summer all my fabric has been in storage awaiting the building of a quilt studio, so I have been sewing temporarily on a tiny table in our tiny extra room with lots of air conditioning on. It’s been pretty hot in Texas. We did take a trip to Jamaica for a family wedding which was awesome. I hope to make the bride (my new daughter-in-law) a beach quilt with those gorgeous sea blue colors once everything is unpacked from the storage building. Thanks for the opportunity to win. It’s so hot in AZ that you spend your summers inside with the AC on. Not something I am used to. A few summers ago I decided that instead of hating it, I would take this time to concentrate on quilting, embroidery and preserving food. Now I love summer for the time it gives me to be creative. Although next summer I may go to the ocean for a few weeks just to remind myself of how nice summer really is!

My favorite summer LOVE is the July 4th Holiday. For over 40 years now we have our annual cookout with around 50 family members to help celebrate our independence. We sit in the backyard, watch the parade, eat great food, play games, laugh a lot and watch the fireworks. One of the favorite games everyone loves is to guess how long it takes the snowman melt. Sometime during the winter after a snowfall, I will go out and built a snowman and stick him in the freezer. He makes his appearance on July 4th and everyone takes a guess on how long it will take him to melt. Not too many people enjoy a snowman on July 4th. What great fun we all have and wonderful memories to cherish.

Oh my gosh! How much fun you all must’ve had quilting. That would be so much fun to spend time talking and catching up while stitching quilt blocks. I can’t particpate in anything at family reunions since they are planned around all sorts of sport and competition type things without anything for those who aren’t able to do that sort of they physically. We stopped attending any of ours since we just felt out of place in our own family. Sad about it but paying so much to go and then not being included in anything just kept us in our room doing nothing. I think I want to come join your family.

Our summer fun this year has been chasing a new kitten around and picking up all the things she’s been knocking over constantly. LOL We made a day trip to MI to see hubby’s Mom and Stepdad although hubby was needed to do some computer and home network repairs for them. His Mom and I got lots of time to catch up since we hadn’t seen them since before Thanksgiving when they headed down to FL for the winter.

I just love your quilts and fabrics so much. I’ve been wanting so badly to buy the Go Dies and sign up for your class on Craftsy but I haven’t been able to yet. Hopefully I can soon because I LOVE that quilt from your class. It’s just gorgeous.

Every year my relatives and I make a quilt. One person organizes the quilt and sends out fabric and instructions for the theme or other info. We all make blocks and mail them back to the organizer. She puts the quilt together. Then, we all get together over a long weekend and unveil the new quilt and admire all the previous quilts..we have 10 now!! They are all beautiful and full of love. These quilts have brought members of our family from coast to coast together every year. More love and togetherness than we could have dreamed…all around these beautiful quilts that will now be handed down from generation to generation. It is pure fun and we all just love it! We even get the guys to contribute every once in a while. 🙂

I saw a quilt that I decided to make for my sister for Christmas since it will be our first without her. I can’t believe how I’ve caught this quilting bug!!!!! I’ve been watching videos, buying magazines, and finally have cut the first pieces of the quilt. I grew up on my grandmother’s lap at her sewing machine and have always love to sew, just have never thought of quilting. It has given me something to look forward to, as I plan on making quilts for my grandchildren and friends also. Now I look forward to finishing my Spring Bouquet so it can take it’s place of honor on an otherwise plain wall. I look forward to many more Laundry Basket Quilt projects after seeing Edyta’s latest quilts from Handful of Scraps at A Touch of Amish in Barrington, Il. It was a beautiful trunk show.

What I love about summer is every summer we go to Michigan to my parents’ house on a lake. I’ve been doing this since I was born, so it’s been 60 years now. My kids go up and my grandkids. And my Aunts and Uncles and cousins. So much fun. I live in Maryland so it’s quite a drive but we wouldn’t miss it for the world. I feel blessed to have had this every summer of my life.

My favorite love is we rent a place up north for a week or two for our entire family, all the children and grandchildren. It is such an awesome moment to be altogether in the same place now that three of the children are married and we have eight grandchildren. We love spending time together, we might spend time at the pool, do simple chalk and bubbles or even stitch together some quilts to send to the orphanages. Family time is always the best, sharing that time with family is truly a gift and a blessing.

My favorite summer LOVE goes back to when I was a kid. We would spend a week at my grandmother’s farm in the mountains of western Maryland – making homemade ice cream in the old-fashioned wooden bucket – playing stick ball out in the field while trying to avoid any fresh cowpats – gathering eggs – feeding chickens – eating my grandma’s buckwheat pancakes that she fixed on the wood stove in the kitchen. Wonderful memories. Thanks.

Last March, the son of our good friends for 35 yrs was diagnosed with liver cancer. About the same time, I started the Edyta Sitar quilt called Eldon. Quilting is always a quiet time for me so, as I would sew, I would think of Randy and his young family. Sadly, he died in June, 5 days after his 43rd birthday. He missed his son’s prom and high school graduation. He devoted his life to helping his son develop into an incredible baseball player who has just started college in a 4yr baseball scholarship. But, Randy will never see him play. I’m still working on my Eldon quilt that I have renamed for Randy, so that I’ll never forget the love our children had for him as they all grew up together, nor the love our family has for his parents and his family.

During the summer we usually don’t travel other than day trips. My husband and I love to travel in the fall. We are going to the Bahamas for the first time. On the way however, we will be stopping in Houston for preview night of the upcoming quilt show. If I don’t spend all my spending money at the quilt show I will be looking for batiks at the International Sewing Center in Freeport Bahamas.

My love this summer was getting my daughters room set up for my quilting room & started back into quilting.
I quilted when the girls were younger, then ball, dance, band, vacations, life was the main focus. Now being an empty nester I returned to quilting this summer. Never realized how much I missed it. Finished a t-shirt quilt, a small baby blanket (for my first grandchild in February 2015) and working on quilt block of the month quilt while starting a new t-shirt quilt. My Quilt board on pinterest is getting full for future projects.
This summer getting back into quilting has warmed my heart.

One thing I love in the summer is the big family picnic that one of my aunts hosts each year for July 4th. It’s the closest thing we have to a family reunion and often the only time during the year when I see some of my extended family. This year I shared some quilting love at that picnic — but in a different way from what you did. I made potholders from my scrap fabrics and took them to the picnic so that anyone who wanted to could take a potholder or two home with them. Lots of my relatives thought it was a great deal of fun looking through the various potholders and choosing their favorites.

This summer I have spent caring for my mother. My mother will be 91 in October. Last fall we all most lost her to a lung infection. So I retired from my job to care for her. This summer we have sorted through family pictures and with the help of my brother have created and Ancestry.com file. We have laughed and cried and I have come to know many relatives through my mothers memories and have documented them for our future generations. Her mind is failing and I have been blessed with this time with her. During the day when mom is sleeping I have spent hours making quilts for my children and grand children so they will have a piece of my “Love” personally for them.
I am currently working on Laundry Baskets Umbrella quilt for my granddaughter to reflect on the time she visited us here in Florida when we went to Universal Studios and got caught in the worst rain storm ever. It then proceeded to flood our whole area for the entire time of her visit. I just know she will LOVE it and the memories it will bring.

My favorite part of summer involves getting up early in the morning, sitting at my sewing machine near the open window with a hot cup of coffee, and watching the sun come up over the mountains to the west as I work on a quilt. I can hear the birds wake up and smell the flowers and the pine trees. It’s my very favorite way to begin the day!

Edyta, thank you for sharing your family love. I especially loved the way the older lady was holding her hands while watching the younger woman sew. I have to hold my hands like that when teaching others. What I love about summer is sitting on my deck hand sewing watching the dear, turkeys,Carolina wrens, orioles,…it doesn’t happen often but that makes it all the more special.

I love our summer vacation to travel back to the Midwest to see our family. This year we celebrated my mother’s 85th birthday by making her a quilt. It was the free pattern from your website. She loved it!

Fresh peaches, corn on the cob, butter beans, sliced tomatoes, and fried okra; the smell of just-cut grass; the sounds of kids splashing in the pool; a trip to the beach; wiggling my toes in the sand; flowers blooming everywhere; watching the eaglets hatch and grow on the eaglecam on the campus of Berry College in Rome, GA; & bluebirds and hummingbirds in my yard are just a few things I love about summer.

Hello Edyta, One of the things I love about summer is going up to South Dakota for my Mother’s birthday. All my sisters and family gather together to celebrate her every June. This year it was her 90th. What a blast my 3 sisters and I have, we all live on the 3 coastlines of the United States. So time together is precious !

I love the sun coming up in the morning and stars shining brite at night. They remind me of the Love of God and his promises kept. They inspire my day and fill my heart with the knowledge of His love.
I love the color I find in flowers. Their bursting rich palettes inspire me. I look for tactile touch in them.
    The love of my family.
The smile and joy I hear and see every morning in their faces.
I love sharing my love of quilting with others and seeing the joy it brings to hearts.

We had such fun collecting the patterns and kits and plan to work on them together at our Guild Quilt Retreat in Oct. We live on a small acreage in the country.
