Patches of Blue – Win a Book!

The last few weeks were full of changes and adjustments.

My son Micheal went off to college. Yup, I am officially an empty nester now.  I get to stand back and watch him ride the waves of his own life.

In the meantime, my hands are full with quilting.

Since our move to California, I have been exposed to all different kinds of inspiration and I have very much enjoyed the beauty that surrounds me.

Still, I will not shift too far from my roots. Traditional quilting still remains my favorite.

My home was the location where we photographed my new book, Patches of Blue. As you can see, it is as traditional as ever.

I love the simplicity of blue and white quilts…

…and I enjoy decorating with them. I notice, when I splash a little yellow through the house with sunflowers or other accents, my house becomes a farmhouse. When I compliment the house with touches of silver it gives a glamorous holiday feel. With a touch of heart warming red, the house will transform to a Fourth of July celebration. The same blue quilts surrounded with accents of seashells and starfish create the feel of a relaxing beach house retreat.

For some reason even with this cold pallet, all my blue quilts make my home feel warm and inviting.

I can’t wait for you to see my new book full of wonderful patterns so you can make your own beautiful blue and white quilts.

There’s a whole boatload of ideas for you to play with and have some fun!

Don’t forget all the lovely antique quilts at the beginning of the book. They are true eye candies and I am so thankful to Lori Gillick of Eagle Creek Quilt Shop who helped gather many of the quilts including ones from Pat Cox. She was so generous in sharing some beauties from her collection.

Do you have a blue and white quilt? Would you like to make one? Leave us a comment for a chance to win a signed copy of our Patches of Blue book and a fat quarter bundle from Blue Sky collection. Winners will be announced Monday September 18, 2017.

Look forward to hearing from you 🙂

There is something about blue and white quilts that just makes my heart happy. This color combination is my absolute favorite. I collect patterns every time I see one done in blue and white for some reason. I’m just drawn to them. Thanks for your book, Patches of Blue. I can’t wait to get started on some of those beautiful blue and white quilts!

The first big quilt I made was blue and white, Storm at Sea. It has over 1700 pieces and I hand pieced and hand quilted it. I just love blue and white quilts. I definitely want to make another.

Being an empty nester is bittersweet. You’re happy to see your children become more independent but you miss them so much. You really treasure the times when they come home.

I, like everyone that has commented would love to make a blue and white quilt especially one of yours. I watch your tutorial and follow your blog and I think that you are truly amazing and so friendly to watch and I what to try new things in the quilting world like appliqué which I am so afraid of trying. So maybe with your book it won’t be so scary. I love and respect the work you do.

When asked what my favorite color is, I have always responded ‘blue’. Interestingly enough, there is no room in my home that is blue and I don’t wear blue very often! When I do I am always told I should wear it more often because it is ‘my color’! I also do not have a blue quilt and love the pictures of your blue quilts. You are right when you say that they make your home very warm and welcoming. Thank you for sharing them; they are an inspiration for my next quilt project.

Have others noticed that displaying something Blue & White quickly freshens & makes a room feel cleaner. As I would complete Radiation for a couple of cancers I would notice this & as I related this phenomena to the oncologist I encouraged the cancer center to follow suit. The staff ever watchful did just that & I cannot tell you the difference that those colors made with us patients.

Patients became calmer, less emotional, & tended to share their fears, & laugh more often.

I love me some 2 fabric quilts! I have made a blue and white throw years ago for my daughter. At the time I was a true newbie to quilting. It came out rather well and she still uses it all the time.
I’m just finishing up a red and white Irish chain quilt and would love to make a blue and white quilt just for myself.
The pictures of the quilt in the book are amazing. I saw several right off that I would love to have.
Congratulations on the new book, it will bring much joy to quilter everywhere.

I always do a primotive quilt/sampler etc. I have always since my childhood been drawn to primitive, antiques always of another era but I always have admired the two tone quilts. When I was in Omaha two summers ago you had a trunk show in the accuquilt building which I found by yer accident driving g down I think route 6 and saw a billboard. So exciting to see your quilts and admire them gor as long as I wanted to. I would love to be a recipient of your fantastic giveaway. This might be that shove I. Dzień dobry :-). Korzystam z internetu i to mi musi wystarczyć. Teraz kończę pikować mój 365 Challenge quilt a mój następny plan, to scrappy quilt z aplikacjami – oczywiście zainspirowany Pani pięknymi pracami! Serdecznie pozdrawiam z Warszawy 😀

I am mulling over in my mind a feathered star snowflake quilt made with blue and white fabric. I already have a jelly roll of your “Blue Barn” fabrics to use in it. I love your quilting style and fabrics. Keep up the good work.

The very first quilt I ever made from start to finish (about 35 years ago) was a blue and white churn dash quilt for my daughter Stephanie’s bed. She is now out of the house and a mom herself, but the quilt is still on the bed. I would love to make another blue and white quilt for the bed of one of her girls.

What a wonderful idea to gather all the blue and white quilts! I love all your patterns, but the blue and white are my favourites. As it happens I am in Val d’ Argent at the moment, at the European Patchwork Festival, where I met you and your quilts for the first time, it was in St. Croix-aux-Mines in the exposition space. When I returned home in Holland I immediately ordered two of your books and since then I am a fan! When you were in Holland in 2015, In Zutphen, you had a show and tell that also included some blue and whites. Lovely quilts! I intend to make the feathered star one day. Anyway, I am looking forward to see the book.

A couple of years ago I made a pretty little blue and white chevron baby quilt backed and bound in red with white polka dots. Turned out so cute! A new baby is expected soon in this family. Luckily I have enough of the blue and white fabric left to make a semi matching quilt for her. I’m thinking pinwheels this time with a sunflower yellow backing and binding.Love how you can go in so many design directions with blue and white!

I usually make red and white so it’s time to make blue and white. I always put blue in every quilt I make. It is a beautiful color to add so why not use it alone?

The very first quilt squares I made were blue and white Ohio Stars. I loved the way they looked, the sharp contrast between the colors.
I think my affection for blue and white began with a friendship with the English ballet teacher in my town. She invited me over for lunch and her whole house was blue and white, including her china.
I hope to get a copy of your book and will be making a new blue quilt, now that I am a more experienced quilter. Thank you!
