Summer Nine Patch Contest

Welcome to the Laundry Basket Quilts Summer Nine Patch Contest!

Nine Patches are one of my favorite blocks to make!
Sometimes they are the center of the quilt,

other times they are the perfect little touch for an inner border,

occasionally you will see them dance their way across your entire quilt.
I love sewing little Nine Patches and using up the smallest scraps in these adorable blocks.

Do you like making Nine Patches, or are you new to quilting?
This could be the perfect block to start.

We are SEW excited to invite you to take part in a fun contest.
Please join us and create as many beautiful Nine Patch blocks!
You can choose to make any size blocks.

If you need extra help, watch this fun video for details on how to make your Nine Patches.
This video will show you how to make your blocks in TWO different ways!

Make sure to read the entire blog, as we have provided 3 different block size recipes for you to choose from!

How To Make a Nine Patch

Edyta's Tip: I piece my Nine Patches on a sewing machine with a 1/4" seam allowance and press my seams towards the dark.

There are two options to make your Nine Patch blocks, please see basic direction for your favorite choice below.
Option 1 will use simple patches and Option 2 will use a strip piecing technique.

Option 1: Cut your fabric into precise squares and arrange them as shown below. Sew the squares together to form three rows, then join the rows to create your classic Nine Patch block.

Option 2: Cut strips, arrange and sew into strip units. Cut sections.

Sew sections together into a Nine Patch block as shown below.

There are so many fun sizes that you can make this block.
Below you will find 3 FREE recipes of my favorite sizes.
