For Block 9, you will need:

(These notions are just my recommendations)

Fabrics (1 dark fabric, 1 accent fabric, and 1 light background fabric)

• Aurifil Thread – 2370 recommended

Edyta’s Tip: Always have a stash of fresh blades for your rotary and remember to change yours often. for the cleanest cuts.

Block 9 Center Square

We will be making 4 total Block 9s and 1 Center Square.

Begin by cutting 1 dark fabric, 1 accent fabric, and 1 light background fabric:

1 Dark Fabric - 1 center square 6½" x 6½"

1 Accent Fabric - 4 squares 4" x 4"

1 Light Background Fabric - 4 squares 4" x 4" and 8 squares 3½" x 3½"

1 Dark Fabric - 1 center square 9½" x 9½"

1 Accent Fabric - 4 squares 5½" x 5½"

1 Light Background Fabric - 4 squares 5½" x 5½" and 8 squares 5" x 5"

Select fabric for 1 block. You will need 1 light background square (4" x 4"), 1 accent square (4" x 4"), and 2 smaller light background squares (3½" x 3½").

For 9" finished block, select fabric for 1 block. You will need 1 light background square (5½" x 5½"), 1 accent square (5½" x 5½"), and 2 smaller light background squares (5" x 5").

Place 1 light square (4" x 4") right sides together on top of 1 accent square (4" x 4") as shown above.

For 9" finished block, place 1 light square (5½" x 5½") right sides together on top of 1 accent square (5½" x 5½") as shown above.

Using your ruler and fabric pencil, draw a diagonal line and pin each side as shown above.

Sew 1/4" away from your draw line. Next, cut on the line.

Open units and press to create Half Square Triangles (HSTs).

Trim to 3½" x 3½".

For 9" finished block, trim to 5" x 5".

Arrange your 2 HST units and 2 light squares (3½" x 3½") as shown above.

Pin and sew into rows, then sew rows together. Press seams allowance.

For 9" finished block, Arrange your 2 HST units and 2 light squares (5" x 5") as shown above.

Trim to 6½" x 6½" unfinished. Repeat steps for a total of 4 Block 9s.

9" finished block trim to 9½" x 9½" unfinished.

Repeat steps for a total of 4 Block 9s.

Our Block 9s will be positioned as shown above in our Summer Mystery Quilt 2022 grid.

These are just a few of our fabric options- I can't wait to see what you create!

Happy Quilting!

I have enjoyed this mystery quilt sew along. I thought that in the video it mentioned the possibility of another video/blog for assembly, scraps etc. just checking as I have looked at both video and blog and don’t see anything new. Thanks for helping me learn to quilt.

I love your quilts!!! I have done both spring sprouts and winter village. This is my first mystery with you and it was a great summer project. Thanks for the two sizes. The 6 inch was great for me. I look forward to doing others.
