The weeks are flying and we are having SEW much
fun creating our beautiful blocks for the mystery quilt!
This week we are working on our final blocks and the center square.
Below is all the information you need to prepare before joining me on our YouTube Channel for step-by-step instructions.
For Block 9, you will need:
(These notions are just my recommendations)
• Fabrics (1 dark fabric, 1 accent fabric, and 1 light background fabric)
• Aurifil Thread – 2370 recommended
• Olfa Rotary and Blades
Edyta’s Tip: Always have a stash of fresh blades for your rotary and remember to change yours often. for the cleanest cuts.
• Sewline Fabric Pencil, Best Press, Pins, scissors, and fresh Microtex Needles 70/10
Block 9 Center Square
We will be making 4 total Block 9s and 1 Center Square.
Begin by cutting 1 dark fabric, 1 accent fabric, and 1 light background fabric:
• 1 Dark Fabric - 1 center square 6½" x 6½"
• 1 Accent Fabric - 4 squares 4" x 4"
• 1 Light Background Fabric - 4 squares 4" x 4" and 8 squares 3½" x 3½"
• 1 Dark Fabric - 1 center square 9½" x 9½"
• 1 Accent Fabric - 4 squares 5½" x 5½"
• 1 Light Background Fabric - 4 squares 5½" x 5½" and 8 squares 5" x 5"
Select fabric for 1 block. You will need 1 light background square (4" x 4"), 1 accent square (4" x 4"), and 2 smaller light background squares (3½" x 3½").
For 9" finished block, select fabric for 1 block. You will need 1 light background square (5½" x 5½"), 1 accent square (5½" x 5½"), and 2 smaller light background squares (5" x 5").
Place 1 light square (4" x 4") right sides together on top of 1 accent square (4" x 4") as shown above.
For 9" finished block, place 1 light square (5½" x 5½") right sides together on top of 1 accent square (5½" x 5½") as shown above.
Using your ruler and fabric pencil, draw a diagonal line and pin each side as shown above.
Sew 1/4" away from your draw line. Next, cut on the line.
Open units and press to create Half Square Triangles (HSTs).
Trim to 3½" x 3½".
For 9" finished block, trim to 5" x 5".
Arrange your 2 HST units and 2 light squares (3½" x 3½") as shown above.
Pin and sew into rows, then sew rows together. Press seams allowance.
For 9" finished block, Arrange your 2 HST units and 2 light squares (5" x 5") as shown above.
Trim to 6½" x 6½" unfinished. Repeat steps for a total of 4 Block 9s.
9" finished block trim to 9½" x 9½" unfinished.
Repeat steps for a total of 4 Block 9s.

I have enjoyed this mystery quilt sew along. I thought that in the video it mentioned the possibility of another video/blog for assembly, scraps etc. just checking as I have looked at both video and blog and don’t see anything new. Thanks for helping me learn to quilt.
