Spring Mystery Quilt 2023 - Week 2

Thank you all for taking the time to come and blossom as a quilter with me.

I am SEW excited to show you our next block! It is SEW cute!

Below is all the information you need to prepare and cut your fabric before

joining me on our YouTube Channel for step by step instructions.

I will be using the Secret Garden Bundle + 2½ yards of A-292-L

in all my pictures to show you the step by step.

But do not worry if you are not using this bundle, I would love to still inspire you every week,

by sharing multiple color options for the fun and simple blocks.

You can use those color options as inspiration for placement of your fabrics.

For Week 2, you will need:

(These notions are just my recommendations)

• Fabrics (4 medium/dark pieces) and 1 light background

• Sew Daisy Fabric Markers (Use fabric markers to stay organized)

• Creative Gird Rulers: 4½" x 12½" and 6½" square

• Aurifil Thread – 2312 or 2325 recommended

• Olfa Rotary and Blades

Edyta’s Tip: Always have a stash of fresh blades for your rotary and remember to change yours often. for the cleanest cuts.

• Sewline Fabric Pencil, Best Press, Pins, Scissors, and fresh Microtex Needles 70/10

Lets watch our first flower buds bloom as your quilting garden grows.

Block 2

4 ½" x 4 ½" unfinished

We will be making 12 total Blue Bell Blocks.

4 Blue Bell Blocks each

from 3 different color combinations

Cutting Directions:

Cutting for 12 blocks

• Accent Fabric: 12 - 1½" squares

• Light Background Fabric: 12 – light HSTs cut from 6 squares 2-7/8″

12 - 1½" squares

12 - 1½" x 2 ½" rectangles

12 - 2½" squares

• Dark Fabric: 12 - dark HSTs cut from 6 squares 2-7/8″ (2 squares from each color)

12 - 2½" x 4 ½" rectangles (4 rectangles from each color)

Blue Bell Block

Arrange 1- 1½" light square, 1- 1½" accent square and 1- 1½" x 2½" light rectangle.

Join the 1½" light square and 1½" accent square.

Join with 1½" x 2½" light rectangle. Press seams.

To make one HST unit, arrange 1- 2⅞” dark half-square triangle

and 1- 2⅞” light half-square triangle as shown.

Pin and sew together. Press towards dark and trim to 2 ½" x 2 ½".

Arrange 1- 2 ½" x 4 ½" dark rectangle and 1- 2 ½" light square. Place right sides together over one corner of the rectangle.

Draw a diagonal line using your fabric pencil and sew together right on the line.

Trim 1/4" away from seam.

Press open.

Blue Bell Assembly

Arrange 3 units as shown.

Sew units together. Trim if needed to 4 ½" x 4 ½" unfinished.

Press seam allowances open.

Repeat steps for a total of 12 Blue Bells in 3 color options.

Spring Mystery Quilt 2023 - Week 1

Come grow with me as a quilter this spring!

Let us wander through a garden of fabrics as we stitch together this mysterious pattern.

Watch your skills and techniques blossom on this quilting journey.

Let's unveil this mystery together!

Like a plant, starting small and growing big,

we will first sprout some small leaves before we grow and sew some larger ones.

Below is all the information you need to prepare and cut your fabric before

joining me on our YouTube Channel for step by step instructions.

(Make sure you read through all of the instructions before you begin!)

Lets start with a small leaf, and let your quilting garden grow.

Small Leaf

4 ½" x 4 ½" unfinished

We will be making 4 total Small Leaf.

Cutting Directions:

Cut (for four blocks):

• Light Background Fabric: 8 - 2½" squares

• Dark Fabric: 4 - 4½" squares

Block Assembly

Place 2 light squares on opposite corners of the dark square, right sides together as shown.

With fabric pencil, draw a diagonal line

from corner to corner on the wrong side of light squares.

Pin each square in place.

Sew on the diagonal lines using you Aurifil thread and Microtex Needle.

Trim 1/4" from the stitching.

Press open the corners to form the triangles.

Push seam allowance towards the dark.

Trim if needed.

Repeat steps for a total of 4 Small leaves, 4 ½" x 4 ½" unfinished.

Large Leaf

5 ½" x 5 ½" unfinished

We will be making 4 total Large leaves.

Cutting Directions:

Cut (for four blocks):

• Light Background Fabric: 8 - 3" squares

• Medium Fabric: 2 - 5⅞"square cut diagonally into 4 HSTs

• Dark Fabric: 2 - 5⅞" square cut diagonally into 4 HSTs

Block Assembly

Arrange 1 HST from medium fabric and 1 HST dark fabric as shown above.

Lay right sides together, pin, and sew.

Press and trim to 5½" HST unit.

Place 2 light squares on opposite corners of the dark square, right sides together as shown.

With your fabric pencil, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of your light squares.

Sew on the diagonal lines. Trim 1/4" from the stitching.

Press open the corners to form the triangles.

Push seam allowance towards the dark.

Trim if needed.

Repeat steps for a total of 4 Large leaves, 5½" x 5 ½" unfinished.

Spring Mystery Quilt 2023

Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's are amazing, and we should celebrate our moms everyday, I hope you agree!

Mother's Day is a special day to really show our love and gratitude.

I want to take a moment and thank three mothers who have played important roles in my life -

my Mother, my Mother-in-love, and Mother Nature. Each so full of joy, light, beauty, and life,

these mothers have been constant inspirations for me in my daily life and with my quilting.

Use this Mother's Day to do something special for the phenomenal mothers in your life.

I can't wait to pick up the phone and visit with my mother-in-love. She always showers me with her generosity, her kind words and support.

Just as she always surprises me, I have an amazing surprise for you -

a Spring Mystery Quilt, just in time for Mother's Day!

This new design will be SEW much fun, and a great skill builder.

As some of my most cherished memories are quilting with my mom,

now I hope to share a similar experience with you!

Are you ready for something new and exciting?

(Me and my momma, doing what we do best!)

We will be doing traditional piecing, a little bit English paper piecing, and appliqué. Not to spoil any surprises and reveal the mystery too early, but I am SEW happy to do this with you!

I can't wait to share with you one of my favorite techniques- Appliqué. With it, in just one little step,

we will elevate our quilts to something super special!

This Spring Mystery Quilt will be a weekly event - May 31st to July 13th.

Quilting clues and recipes for blocks will be posted every Wednesday on our Blog and YouTube Channel.

This event is free to everyone, and everyone is welcome!

Make sure you SIGN UP for our newsletter so you can be up to date for this event,

and don't forget to tell your friends!

For piecing, we will be using a sewing machine and Aurifil Thread, 2312 or 2325.

We will be making 5 block designs, each block repeating multiple times.

Don’t worry, we will share this information with you as we go, one step at a time.

On weeks 5 & 6 of our journey, I'll share with you how to put all your pieces together and

sprinkle in a little appliqué!

Quilt Info: • Quilt size is 53½" x 53½" finished • The quilt is made from four sections

But that's not all!

The best part is, you get to choose

from multiple color options, all of which will inspire you!

Fabric Requirements and Color Options

For this quilt you need:

14 medium/dark fabrics (Fat Quarters) and 1 light fabric (2½ yards).

We will be showing the quilt design in our Secret Garden Bundle option.

This option can be a example for your fabric choices.

You can choose fabrics from your own stash, or we have some options prepared just for you.

This is also the perfect opportunity to pick out some of your favorite

Fat Quarters from your Fabric Club bundles!

For my Spring Mystery Quilt, I will be using the Secret Garden Bundle and have paired it with

2½ yards of A-292-L for my background.

I thinks it's going to look sew cute!

We have a wonderful selection of bundles to choose from.

With each fabric bundle, you'll have the option to have me hand select your background fabric.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

Spring Garden Bundle - Winter Garden Bundle - Berry Garden Bundle - Rose Garden Bundle

These bundle options will open the door, allowing you to

personalize this project - put your own spin on this Spring adventure!

You only need to choose one color option bundle to make this quilt.

Appliqué

As I mentioned above, we will add a touch of Appliqué.

When we get to this step, you can use leftover pieces from you bundle, or...

If you don't want to cut your own Appliqué shapes, we have Appliqué Silhouette Shapes in

three different color options to match your bundle! Just choose your favorite.

Perfect Union (Blue), Sweet Sixteen (Red) or Green Thumb (Green).

You will need 2 packages of Silhouettes for one quilt.

(Just make sure you add them when shopping for your bundle.)

If you're want to cut your own appliqué,

you can also use our Simple Shapes Stencil or GO! Simple Shapes die.

In week 6, you will receive all the information about how many and which pieces you will need.

Be patient, it is worth the wait!

• Best Press • Pins, Scissors, Needle Threader, and Double Needle Threader

• Handsewing Needles, Embroidery Needles Size 11, and fresh Microtex Needles 70/10

This year, we will not be working with a Quilt Grid until towards the end.

We will start by building Blocks 1-4. Use your Fabric Markers to keep track of your blocks

as we go! Then once we get to Block 5, block placement and sashing pieces will be provided.

Please be patient as you complete your Blocks. Once again, I assure you it will be worth it!
